The Great Flood of 2010

Andy| June 26, 2010 8:32 am

Last night we had a good, hard rain that led to one of the best street floods we’ve had since moving here.  Down the street by the drain, the water came up to mid-thigh of a neighbor.

Here are some pictures of  what our neighborhood does when we get a street flood.

Asher didn’t like riding in the tub-boat idea so much, but Titus thought it was a good idea (as long as he could push instead of ride).

Titus “crossed the river” once the water had gone down 6″.  Asher decided to give it a go, too.

Mr. Shane, the local celebrity, attempts to drive the whole street.  He turned around at the 3/4 point!

Lawn Mower Wagon Ride

There’s nothing quite like a lawn mower wagon ride with Grandpa!

Just to get you by…

I know it’s been a while and believe me, I have good excuses =)  It has been a bit crazy (in a good way) around here with birthday parties, numerous house guests, trips across the country and of course, everyday life =)  Here is my sweet family at Titus and Asher’s birthday party on Saturday.  It will just have to get you by until I have more time to post.

First Photograph

Titus and Asher had a great birthday celebration today!  One of Titus’s gifts from Uncle Ua and Adrianna was a new camera.  Here’s his first photograph.

Guys Weekend

Andy| May 18, 2010 12:48 pm

This past Friday-Sunday, Sarah was out of town and the boys were stuck with Daddy (On Monday Auntie Alyssa and Ollie gave them a break).

My goals for the weekend were simple:  Enjoy the outdoors, run the wheels off the boys, and avoid making any other goals for the weekend!  Here’s my breakdown of the weekend.

Conclusions:

  1. Thanks to the woods nearby our house, we will learn if either of our boys has a resistance to poison ivy (or as Titus calls it, “Nivey”) by the end of the summer.
  2. The best kids-eat-free restaurant deals are CiCi’s Pizza (total bill: $6), Qdoba (total bill: $9), and Denny’s.  CiCi’s price will increase by 60% once Titus is 4; Qdoba actually has a one-for-one deal, but I managed to wrangle it into two free kids meals; and we didn’t get a chance to try out Denny’s.
  3. The house stays cleaner if you only use it for sleeping.

How I appreciate Sarah more after this weekend:

  1. She feeds the kids well.  For some reason, adding broccoli to a meal of tuna fish sandwiches is a lot of work!  A sub-point: this includes her efforts to keep the grocery bills low.
  2. She talks to our children.  During lunch on Sunday, I realized that we had been sitting in complete silence for almost 10 minutes.  I hadn’t been keeping the running narrative that she usually keeps, and after 2 days our boys forgot how to talk.
  3. I’m tired!  And I didn’t even touch the laundry…
