I was painting the basement when I heard Sarah and Titus walking down the stairs. After a painful minute of listening to Titus descend without touching the walls, he finally made it to the bottom and told me, “Daddy, I didn’t touch the paint and die.”
Sure, it would be frustrating for me to go back and fix hand prints on the walls, but I think one of us was a little too firm about the consequences of touching wet paint!

I was reading a book to the boys about the crucifixion.
Titus: “Daddy, will I die on a cross?”
Me: “No”
Titus: “Why not?”
Me (after a not-so-short pause): “Because they don’t put people on crosses anymore.”
…I got an eye-roll from Sarah on that useful piece of fatherly wisdom.
We’ve been teaching Titus his letters and sounds lately. Actually, Sarah has been working pretty diligently with him over months. That’s why, when we walked into the porch this afternoon, we were delighted to witness this:
Titus walks up to a tub labeled “FILES” and says:
“fffff, ih, llllll, eh, sssss”
Then, his eyes lit up and he exclaimed “Tub!”
Teaching 4-year-old to read: Fail (well, no 5 letter words)
Watching 4-year-old get excited about reading: Success!
It appears that Titus has quite a plan of how things will go when our new baby arrives. He has even been giving Asher advice on how this is going to work. The other night at dinner Titus looked at Asher and in all seriousness told him “Asher, you know that when our baby brother is born that you can’t eat him, right?!” Then last night Titus told me that he knew I could handle two boys but wasn’t sure I could handle three boys (a reasonable fear!). I asked him what we should do about it and his solution was “You can take care of Titus, Daddy can take care of Asher and I will take care of the new baby.”
Man, if all this is really how it’s going to go, it looks like I can just take a vacation after delivery!
