Digital Editing
Photography Special Project

This is my special project for the photography class I'm taking this semester. It involves taking digital photographs and tweaking them to make them look better, different, or odd. I've included fairly detailed explanations on the steps I took to manipulate each image, so feel free to read along, or just look at the before and after comparisons.

All pictures are thumbnails. Click on them if you want to see a bigger and better picture, under 1M.

Yet another logging picture taken at my neighbor's place, I didn't do a lot of special effects to this picture. Actually, the most difficult part of editing it was keeping myself in check, and not doing too much.

I used levels, curves, and a small bit of Unsharp Mask, but all of these barely changed the photograph at all. The first attempt I took at changing it, the ground came out red and the needles were practically inverted because of the excessive sharpness. After a little thought, I backed off and concentrated on a realistic version.

The most difficult part was the cyan to blue sky, which I wanted to deepen in hue. I used the bezzier select tool to avoid turning the clouds blue, and manage to darken it a little, but it was pretty dark to begin with anyways.

Although it annoyed me, I had to restrain myself to keep this picture in moderation.
