All About the Kids

For the last couple of months now, Titus has been learning animal sounds.  He has quite a selection now, even incorporating gestures to go with the elephant sound thanks to Uncle Paul!  However, Titus has always had a bit of trouble with the “moooo” sound.  When prompted for the sound a cow makes, Titus would either say “Mmmmmmm”, “ooooooooo”, or occasionally even make both sounds with a big breath of air in between.

Yesterday we were flipping through an animal book, and Titus stuck his finger on the head of a cow and said “moooooo”!  I looked up at Sarah, and she confirmed with a nod that he had been putting the two sounds together lately.  Then Titus pointed at the picture of a panda on the opposing page and said “moooooo” again…

Oh well, one animal at a time, I suppose!

This morning Titus was walking back and forth, looking at the floor.  After a second, it occurred to me that he was watching his shadow.  So I taught him to wave, and he walked around waving to his shadow for the next half hour, hugely smiling when his shadow waved back!

It’s fun to watch Titus figure stuff out!

So I finally polished off my picture backlog of the past few (ok, more like six) months, with three new 2007 albums and three new 2008 albums. Even though I had thought Titus seemed like he hasn’t changed much, it’s amazing to see the difference between last October and now! I think the pictures don’t quite show it, but I’m remembering back to how he acted in his monkey suit…

I also have some fun December pictures. I think that the groups of similar pictures are even more fun now that Titus is so active. A single snapshot hardly describes the craziness!

Plus I have some Christmas pictures, now that Titus is finally starting to understand the concept of paper, and how you can’t rip the pages of books, but you can rip the paper off of presents. He’s also developed an affinity for tissue paper (over presents, bows, wrapping paper, and yes–even boxes).

Titus is busting out his vocabulary–I think Sarah said he’s had a new word every day this week. Sometimes he just surprises you more than usual, like yesterday when he decided to bust out both “ball” and “catch” for the first time.

My favorite new surprise came Wednesday night when I said “one”, Titus responded “tow”, I jokingly said “three”, and he finished up with “toe”! So now if you help out, Titus can count “tow, tee, toe” (two, three, four). Fun stuff!

For the second time in the past week, someone called Titus a little girl. Now if you know Titus, it’s pretty obvious that he isn’t a girl, so this must mean that we’re allowing his hair to look excessively girl-like.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Sarah is going to go for more than a slight singe when it comes time for Titus’ first haircut, so he just might be in for a few more “oh, what a nice little girl you are” comments!

Now I really should have some pictures to accompany this post, but what with baby room preparations, the computer with all our pictures has been relegated to the basement, which causes me to be a little less faithful about putting new galleries up.
