Productivity??

IMG_8095

I realize that no matter what stage of life you are in, there are likely never enough hours in the day.  This stage for me is no different.  I really think I had some fairly unrealistic expectations of what my days would look like as a stay at home mom…amazing times of playing, learning, exploring with my children and extreme productivity for my house cleaning, cooking, etc.  Obviously those of you who have been to my house know that things didn’t exactly turn out like that =)  This week I was feeling excited about checking some things off my list (because I really do enjoy that a lot!) and so while the boys were napping one afternoon I was working on entering receipts in our budget ledger and balancing the checkbook…of course Asher woke up early and while I attempted to finish the job, he “helped” me by sucking on my receipts and scattering them into all of the nooks and crannies in my living room.  It wasn’t a big deal but it did get me thinking again about what “productivity” looks like at this stage in my life.  Sure, dinner does need to be made or we’d all go hungry and the bathroom should be cleaned so that no one gets too repulsed but I have to also remind myself that I am a stay at home mom because I believe it is valuable to my children and not because I desire a spotless house.  So, here is my new list of productivity that happened that day instead of getting the house stuff done:

-36 books read to the boys

-picnic lunch packed and enjoyed with the boys

-fingernails and toenails trimmed

-matchbox cars organized, color coordinated, driven and played with excessively

-puzzles completed

-many, many, many, many songs sung to and with my boys

-workout including pushing on swings, chasing after, carrying and climbing

-intellectual stimulation including alphabet practice, counting, color identification, etc.

-creative activities pursued including playdoh creatures and many imaginative games

-hugs and kisses given

I guess it wasn’t such an unproductive day after all =)

This video shows one of my favorite songs that Titus likes to sing!  I think he could sing all day long!

A Good Weekend

We had such a nice and relaxed weekend at home!  I got a chance to get out of the house on Friday for a haircut and then on Saturday we set up the kiddie pool and enjoyed every minute possible outside.  We had Dawn and the kids over for some grilling Saturday night and then yesterday we got to celebrate Abby’s graduation with her.  Monday mornings are always a bummer but I think we all feel like we had a good weekend of both relaxing and socializing that it makes it a little easier!  Here are just a few highlights.

Two Peas in a Pod?

{These pictures are a couple of months old (I’ve been meaning to get them up and just keep getting distracted!)}  One of my favorite things to watch in Titus and Asher is how their own personalities develop.  Although there are certainly a number of similarities that they share, I am amazed at all the differences that can be there…even being raised in the same way.  It is so fun to see the way that they are created as such individuals.  Here are just a few examples of their physical and characteristic differences:

ASHER

-fearless:  will climb on and jump off anything

-brown eyes

-cuddler

-talker

-likes to play with all the toys at once

-enjoys watching and laughing at the silly antics of others

TITUS

-cautious:  knows and respects his own limits and wants to be safe

-blue eyes

-on the go

-listener

-likes to focus in one one group of toys or activities

-enjoys putting on a show for others

Happy Doctor’s Day

Today was a big day of appointments for us:  ENT for Asher, 3 year check up for Titus, chiropractor for me, and knee MRI for Andy.  Won’t those be a fun set of bills =)  Asher’s ears were perfect looking and as long as something random doesn’t happen it looks like we don’t have to have them checked again for six months.  Titus’ 3 year appointment was really good…I really like our pediatrician!  He had his first eye exam and was pretty excited about what a “cool dude” he looked like with his little eye patch over one eye =)  I was trying to prepare him this morning in case he might have to have shots (which he didn’t) and he told me that Asher could have his shots for him…what a generous brother!  Anyhow, Titus is now 40 pounds and 39 1/2 inches.
