All About the Kids

Titus had his 4 month doctor’s appointment today, on his 4 month birthday/anniversary, and he just keeps growing! His weight is up to 18 1/2 lbs, which is about what I would expect, I suppose. However, his height (or length) is 27 1/2 inches! So he’s exceeding that one inch per month formula for four months running (23″ at birth, 25″ at his 2 month, and 27 1/2″ at his 4 month)!

It’s much more difficult for me to be able to gauge his change in height than weight gain. I supposed it’s because I carry him more often than I stand him up to see how tall he is, but I should’ve probably concluded something after moving his car seat straps to the top rung this weekend!

For the past couple of weeks Titus has been trying to roll over from back to front, but has been running into difficulties with his right arm getting in the way. Today he was finally able to loft that little head of his up and over his arm, and roll onto his stomach!

Fortunately, Sarah had just gotten back home, so she didn’t miss the event (though Titus and I had been practicing while she was gone).

Now that Titus has the ability to go front to back and back to front, I’m wondering how long before he get’s the steamroller technique going, and can move wherever he wants to! Uh oh, I’d better get to work patching that hole in the bathroom floor…

Thursday night, Titus set a new record for number of consecutive hours asleep–he hit 8 in a row! His previous record was 7 hours, and although he’s hit 4-5 a number of times, it hasn’t been the consistent increase we had expected (I think he pulled his 7 hour shift sometime in July).

Both Sarah and Titus were pretty funny. For only having 6 hours in a row, she was quite bright-eyed! Titus woke up again 1 hour after his 8 hour stretch, and wasn’t about to be calmed down to go back to sleep. He sat in his little swing and just chatted away at the closet doors.

Anyways, we’re just glad that there’s hope for a full night’s sleep someday, even if it isn’t right now (he maxed out at one 4 hour, and one 3 hour shift last night).

This weekend I was working on his mirror skills. He is getting pretty good at making eye contact with me in a mirror, even when the sounds I make are coming from a different direction entirely. I was making faces at him and he was smiling back at his favorites. Then his eyes drifted over to look at himself, and he started smiling and cooing at himself! I don’t claim that he recognized that “other baby in the mirror”, but he definitely thought that the “other baby” was worth smiling over!
