Poor Baby!

We had a big outing this morning to see the Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist to have Asher’s little ears checked out.  One thing we were praying for is to have total clarity as to what route we should take next and we feel very assured that that prayer was answered!  It looks like our next stop will be Children’s Hospital for surgery to have tubes put in!!  Just the sheer number of ear infections was enough to convice the doc that we should do tubes (apparently any more than four in one year should mean tubes and we’re WAY over that number).  Also, they did a hearing test and while a range of 0 to 20 is considered normal, Asher was at a 30, which the doc said would normally (if there was no diagnosis) make him want to put hearing aids in immediately…yikes!  Anyhow, I’ll certainly keep you posted as to when we get the surgery scheduled but we would definitely appreciate your prayers that everything would go smoothly and that the infections would stop and his hearing would go back to normal and not cause any lasting problems.  Thanks all!

Update

This has been an interesting week and I figure that the best way to tell you about it is to give you the update on each of the Fredman Four!

Andy:  It has been a week full of home remodeling bonanza!  Seriously, he is making amazing progress working on the basement bedroom, bathroom and closets and it’s so fun to see it all come together.

Asher:  He has been so sick this week and so I took him to the doctor yesterday and found that he has possibly some upper respiratory stuff going on as well as another round of double ear infections…poor boy!  He is feeling a little better today after some antibiotics and next Wednesday we see the Ear, Nose and Throat specialist to see what to do next and to check his hearing.

Titus:  We have now completed day 7 of potty training and I am nervous to even make such a claim already but I think I would say that he is potty trained!!!!  Seriously, he has no accidents, wears underwear all day and when he needs to use the bathroom he says “Mommy, I need to pee (or poop) “, pulls his underwear down, uses the toilet, washes his hands and is done.  We’ve had two outings and he has remained dry and except for one night has remained dry during all sleeping times (naps and night).  He loves using the bathroom and when we put a diaper on for bedtime he nearly cries because he “doesn’t want to pee in his jammies!”  I’m about as proud as I can get =)

Me:  Besides being the around the clock potty trainer, I decided to tackle a little project while hanging out at home this week and just tonight I finished it.  Yes, I beat my mom this year and am finished with my spring cleaning (except for washing the windows).  It is a good feeling and about the earliest I’ve ever gotten it out of the way1

Potty Training

img_6500

So this weekend we began the infamous journey of potty training!  Can I just say that this is a lot of work?!  Oof, I think that potty training is a full time job in and of itself…poor Asher is learning really well to play independently.

Anyhow, aside from all that, Titus is doing really good!  He has only had one peeing accident since Saturday morning.  We are still trying to figure out how to convince him that doing the other half of the process in the toilet would be good but one step at a time I suppose =)  Our main challenge is helping him relax enough to actually begin because the whole thing makes him a little nervous.  So, that being said, if any of you wise parents out there have some potty training wisdom for us we would LOVE it!!!!

10 months old!

img_6426

I am a few days late in this but it is true…Asher has reached the double digits and is now 10 months old!  Here’s a little glance of what he has been up to lately:

*EATING!  He still loves to eat pretty much anything and is totally done with all baby food now (he would much prefer finger food that he can feed himself, as evidenced by the above meal of mixed fruit, broccoli and black beans).

*Crawling!  We honestly figured he wasn’t going to do this since Titus never did and since he was already pulling himself up and beginning to cruise a little but it is SO fun that he is!

*Talking!  He now says Mama, Dada, Brother, Titus and Asher.  He is working really hard on cracker but not quite there yet =)

*Playing outside!  We are super happy that it is finally warming up and it is so fun to take the boys outside more.  I think the stroller is the only place that Asher sits completely silent because he is so concerned about not missing anything that happens outside.

*Wreaking havoc =)  Yes, it appears that all of Asher’s new found mobility has also lead to a decent amount of destruction in our house.  Just this morning he pulled himself up on the art easel and ripped the chalk tray right off!

I guess this got a little long but hope you can enjoy!

Scarred for Life!

img_6413

I hope everyone reading this knows that I have never claimed to be Super Mom!  In fact, I’m fairly certain that I have had enough public mothering mishaps to reassure any other mom that I am not perfect and I don’t expect anyone else to be.  That being said, let me tell you about a little whiff this morning:

I was busy nursing Asher this morning when Titus bumped his finger on the cupboard and began wimpering.  I did the “right” mommy thing and kissed his finger and attempted to distract him with a different activity.  He proceeded to whine quite excessively (in my opinion at least).  And let me just say here that whining is something we are really trying to address stongly in our house!  So, when he did not listen to my request for him to use his “Titus voice” (aka the non-whiny voice) I sent him to the time out spot and told him to return when he was finished.  He came back several minutes later with his airplane and began playing quite nicely.  I soon noticed that his airplane was dirty looking and wondered what in the world it was covered in…yup, that was blood!  In my efforts to eliminate the whining I managed to completely miss the fact that his little finger was bleeding.  Oops!!  He is definitely fine now and not likely scarred for life but he does enjoy showing everyone his new owie!  And I am sure that it won’t be long at all before I have another mothering mishap to send your way =)
