This is only the beginning!

This semester I am doing an ECFE class with Asher and it is truly humorous to me that every time we walk in the room, the teacher and the aides have to stop themselves mid-sentence from saying “Hi Titus” and switching it to “Hi Asher.”  I suppose I don’t have a whole lot of natural sympathy since both Andy and I are first borns and have never really experienced this.  Still, I can’t help but to wonder how much Asher might dislike this some day.  It’s funny because in my mind my two kids are SO very different that it’s hard to believe one could be mistaken for the other.  Anyhow, I would welcome any wisdom from non-first borns as to how to best approach this in coming years.

And here is a random brother picture from our trip to Legoland just for fun =)

Big Boy Bed!

Well, it seems that a decision has been made!  I did a “test” with Asher when he got home yesterday and put him in the crib to see what he would do.  Of course he immediately tried to get out…both by putting his leg up and over and by hoisting his tummy over the bar and swinging his body to get momentum to go head first…yikes!  Needless to say, it was time to be done with the crib.  So, we took the matrress and laid it on the floor (until I’m more confident he won’t roll off the bed onto the hard wood floors).  He did GREAT!!  He woke up once having rolled off the mattress and we found him standing in the middle of his room, quite bewildered.  Then he made it until 7 this morning, which is pretty good for my kids =)  Anyhow, even though the “dome” suggestion didn’t pan out, we do have a plan and it’s kind of strange to think of taking this “big boy” step with my little boy!

We have a monkey!

This has been quite a relaxing two days!  Since Grandma and Grandpa are teachers, they have today off and are entertaining the boys at their house =)  This morning Grandma told me about Asher’s latest development and I decided that we have a monkey!  It turns out that at only 20 months old Asher is no longer going to be sleeping in the pack and play when we are out of town.  I guess he has become quite adept at climbing out without anyone even hearing a peep!  Now, I figured that since the pack and play must be so much more shallow than his crib we would still be good to go in having him remain in his crib…I am so not ready to move him to a big bed without confinement!!  Well, I did some measuring and it turns out that the distance from the top of the mattress to the top of the side is exactly 22 inches on BOTH the crib and the pack and play…bummer!  I’m still trying to decide if he will try to escape the crib too and if I want to make the switch now or see if I can hold him off a little longer.  I certainly don’t want him to fall as he climbs out on his own either!!  Anyhow have any good answers?

Left Handed / Right Brained

It was just a few days ago that Andy was commenting on how neat it was that Asher was left handed like he was!  We were talking about how it will be fun to see if that left handed/right brained aspect of Asher makes him have creative and artistic strengths like Andy.  Really, whatever my kids end up having as strengths will be great with me but it is fun to think about and see if we can catches glimpses already of what they will be like later in life.

Anyhow, yesterday morning I took a quick (and I mean really quick!) shower.  I had set Titus and Asher up in front of a Thomas movie.  Titus is really into a tattling phase and so I assumed that if Asher left his designated spot that I would hear about it immediately.  What I didn’t consider was that Titus likes Thomas WAY more than he like to tattle on his little brother.  I came out of the bathroom and heard Asher playing in Titus’ room.  I try to keep the boys’ rooms pretty kid proofed so I wasn’t too worried and just started to poke my head in the room to double check.  Asher immediately shut the door and so I proceeded to get ready, assuming all was fine.  Well, a few minutes later I went to get Asher out of the bedroom and found that he had somehow climbed up the closet shelves to get the crayons and had then proceeded to color all over the wood floors and the back side of the door!

All that being said, I think maybe right brained isn’t all it’s cracked up to be =)

Nap Time?

Andy has been yawning and commenting on how tired he is so Titus decided to read him a book and let him cuddle with him and take a nap =)
